GMA is promoting a coffee diet segment with a run of several ads over the last several days. But wasn’t the Coffee Diet debunked several years ago?

I kept seeing these GMA ads advertising yet another diet. Is there any validity to the Coffee diet or is this just another fad. LiveStrong reported about a form of the diet as follows.
Black coffee is low in calories and high in antioxidants, but drinking it with every meal won’t necessarily help you lose weight. The 3-Day diet, also known as the egg diet, the grapefruit diet or the black coffee diet, is a fad diet that has circulated around the Internet and involves drinking black coffee for every meal. Although it may seem like a quick way to lose weight, the 3-Day diet may be ineffective and unsafe so talk to your doctor before trying it.
The article further points out that a dramatic reduction in calories has a drawback. The body will tend to shed water to retain fat. The body would tend to regain weight as soon as one stops the diet and one drinks fluids.
Here is the reality. Losing weight is as simple as basic arithmetic. There are approximately 3,500 calories in a pound of human fat. To lose weight one must determine how many calories one must eat to maintain the same weight. According to Medical News Today,
Recommended daily calorie intakes vary across the world. According to the National Health Service (NHS), UK, the average male adult needs approximately 2,500 calories per day to keep his weight constant, while the average adult female needs 2,000. US authorities recommend 2,700 calories per day for men and 2,200 for women.
Losing weight does not require some fad diet. It just requires eating fewer calories than your body needs to stay at the same weight. If you exercise, you can eat some more. If you don’t, eat less. We should stop fooling ourselves into believing there is some special diet out there that will make it easier than just changing our lifestyle and eating less.
Watch GMA’s segment about the Coffee Diet. Afterward, remember it is basic arithmetic, and there is no magic to losing weight. And I speak from experience.Click here for reuse options!
